We wish Sasha and Ahmed full and fruitful lives. Three UAE cord blood samples processed and stored by BioVault have been used to good effect. Two samples were used to treat Thalassemia and the third for Cerebral Palsy. Seven year old Ahmed Mohammad’s success story is very much in the public domain and touched a large number of local and international readers . Ahmed hails from Fujairah and was treated in Germany. The process involved destroying his bone marrow first through chemotherapy. Next he was given cord blood from his healthy sister Alanoud to replace the bone marrow. The transplant was a complete success and he is now cured. He no longer needs problematic life saving transfusions and chelation therapy. Sasha Browne’s story is no less remarkable, a Dubai resident but treated half way around the world in North Carolina. She is among the first beneficiaries of the Duke University’s study on Cerebral Palsy that is creating quite a lot of interest in the international press. Unlike Ahmed, Sasha received her own cord blood through infusion. Her story is one of hope for millions of sufferers of Cerebral Palsy.
